本PDセミナーでは、台湾・国立政治大学のAngela Yung-chi Hou教授（侯永琪教授）をお迎えし、台湾における政策を事例に、EMI（English-Medium Instruction: 英語による教授）が機関戦略においていかに位置づけられ、研究力・国際共同研究・教育の質といった点にどう作用するかを多面的に考えます。
グローバルな大学ランキング競争が激化する中、「ワールドクラス大学」を目指す高等教育機関にとって、研究力の強化と国際化戦略の整合性は不可欠な課題です。EMIは単なる言語政策にとどまらず、国際研究ネットワークの拡充や優秀人材の獲得を通じて機関の競争力を高める戦略的ツールとなりますが、EMIが有効に機能するためには、学内の教員評価制度を整備する必要もあります。ワールドクラス大学の実現にEMIが果たしうる役割と限界について議論します。皆様、奮ってご参加ください。
In this PD Seminar, we are pleased to welcome Professor Angela Yung-chi Hou from National Chengchi University, Taiwan. Drawing on policy cases from Taiwan, the seminar will explore from multiple perspectives how English-Medium Instruction (EMI) is positioned within institutional strategies, and how it interacts with research capacity, international research collaboration, and the quality of teaching and learning.
As competition in global university rankings intensifies, aligning research capacity with internationalization strategies has become an indispensable challenge for higher education institutions aspiring to achieve world-class status. EMI is not merely a language policy; it serves as a strategic tool for enhancing institutional competitiveness through the expansion of international research networks and the recruitment of talented faculty and students. At the same time, for EMI to function effectively, it is essential that institutions develop and align their internal faculty evaluation systems accordingly. This seminar will examine both the potential role and the limitations of EMI in realizing the vision of a world-class university.
