■Abstract
We are hosting a book launch event to celebrate the publication of “International Student Mobility in Japan: Higher Education in the Era of the New Normal” published by Routledge. This book explores the current state of international student mobility and the internationalisation of higher education in Japan, offering a multifaceted scope of student experiences and challenges faced by higher education institutions during the post-pandemic “New Normal” era. The editors, Sachihiko Kondo (Osaka University), Yu Sengoku (Shinshu University), Ryoko Nakano (Tohoku University), and Akito Okada (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies), along with nine contributors, provide expert insights in each chapter. The book discusses the progress of globalisation in Japanese higher education and transformations in student support systems. It also focuses on the social, cultural, and linguistic challenges international students face and offers practical recommendations. This work is valuable not only for researchers and educators but also for international students and policymakers.
At the event, authors involved in the book will introduce their chapters and discuss the important themes covered in this book. A discussion on key topics and a Q&A session with participants is also planned. A representative from Taylor & Francis will also share insights into the publishing process for researchers. This event offers an opportunity to consider the current state and future of international student policies and research, and we hope for broad participation.
