The National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE) held the annual Forum entitled “A Tectonic Shift in Quality Assurance of Higher Education: What can we learn from the latest UK experience?” on October 9, 2024. Approximately 370 participants joined online and in-person from across Japan and abroad.
This year’s forum focused on the UK’s higher education quality assurance system, which has been undergoing a major change in recent years that could be described as a “tectonic shift”. Ms. Vicki Stott, Chief Executive of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), explained the background and implications of the changes in the UK’s higher education quality assurance system, as well as the new services QAA is launching and their aims. Through the keynote speech, the participants learned the essential meaning of “tectonic shift” and discussed the future vision of quality assurance for higher education institutions in Japan.
