Report on: the International Conference “CGHE East Asia Researchers’ Meeting”

The RIHE hosted CGHE East Asia Researchers’ Meeting that was sponsored by Centre for the Global Higher Education (CGHE) on 19~21 March 2023 in a hybrid format. The meeting was held as part of Futao Huang’s ongoing project funded by the JSPS (19H01640). The meeting focuses on how to advance higher education research and collaboration in East Asia amid national, regional, and global challenges.
On Day 1, Shinichi Kobayashi made opening remarks. Simon Marginson talked on purposes of higher education. Thomas Brotherhood from Rikkyo University, Lilan Chen from Osaka University, Japan, Xin Li from Seoul National University, Korea, Ying-Yan Lu from Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan, Xin Xie from Peking University, China, Weiyan Xiong from Lingnan University, Hong Kong, and Lili Yang from University of Hong Kong shared their research observations and recent findings with participants.
On Day 2, focusing on national and regional higher education issues, in the context of problems of Westernization and decolonization, Robin Chen from National Chengchi University, Taiwan, Tsukasa Daizen & Yangson Kim from Hiroshima University, Zhuolin Feng from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Futao Huang from Hiroshima University, Ka Ho Joshua Mok from Lingnan University, Wenqin Shen from Peking University, Jun Cheol Shin from Seoul National University, Korea, Wen from Tsinghua University, China, Akiyoshi Yonezawa from Tohoku University, Japan, and Xin Xu from the University of Oxford, the UK made presentations.
On Day 3, discussions were made between all the researchers and online participants the kind of pressures we experience from government and institutions concerning international links, and how to maintain good cooperation.
