主旨
高等教育における学修評価は現代社会において喫緊の課題となっており、我が国の高等教育のビジョン「2040年に向けた高等教育のグランドデザイン」にも「個々人の学修の達成状況の可視化」が課題として提示されています。 経済協力開発機構（OECD）は、高等教育で生み出すべきスキルの領域を、これまでの専門的なスキルに加え、 批判的思考力、創造力、自信、情熱、リーダーシップ等の態度や社会的なスキルであるとし、2019年に「高等教育における学生の創造的で批判的な思考のスキル」プロジェクトを12カ国の高等教育機関とともに立ち上げました。
上智大学と国際基督教大学は、2018年5月に締結した「連携及び協力に関する包括協定」に基づき、同プロジェクトに協同で参加し、環境教育の分野で試験的に評価を実施しています。本シンポジウムでは、全米大学協会（Association of American Colleges and Universities)の学修評価ルブリックの作成に深く携わってきたMark Nicholas氏による基調講演、及び両大学のプロジェクト実施者による発表を通して、批判的思考力と創造力に関する学修評価の現状、課題、展望について議論します。
なお、本シンポジウムは文部科学省「スーパーグローバル大学創成支援事業」補助金の支援を受けて実施します。

基調講演要旨
The movement for accountability in American Higher Education stoked interest in the assessment of student learning in key liberal arts objectives like critical thinking, creativity and written communication. This keynote will examine how institutions of higher education in the US responded to the movement for accountability using standardized tests and the more recent impetus to use non-standardized, course embedded approaches to assess student learning. It will highlight the practical lessons we learned in the process and our continued exploration for high impact practices when designing classroom assignments, pedagogies and assessments that address student learning in key liberal arts objectives including critical thinking, creativity and written communication.
基調講演者（Mark Nicholas氏）略歴
フラミンガム州立大学で組織評価・認定を担当。2006年より全米大学協会においてリベラルアーツの目標を実施・評価するための数々のタスクフォースに参画。研究分野は高等教育における学修過程と成果としての批判的思考力で、専門分野に加えて、ファカルティ・ディベロップメント、高等教育におけるアカウンタビリティと評価、研究手法、学術プログラムの検討アサイメント・デザイン等、幅広い分野での著書、論文がある。
Dr. Mark Nicholas, is Executive Director for Institutional Assessment and Accreditation at Framingham State University, Massachusetts. Since 2006, he has been actively involved with the assessment of student learning at the national level and has served on several state-wide taskforces focused on implementing and assessing key liberal arts objectives. His research interests focus on critical thinking as a process and outcome in higher education. He has published on critical thinking and faculty development, accountability and assessment in higher education, research methodologies, academic program review and assignment design. Dr. Nicholas has delivered keynote addresses at over ten assessment, accreditation and research conferences and meetings in the United States. He is regularly invited to conduct faculty development and pre-conference workshops at the AAC&U and Assessment Institute conferences. Dr. Nicholas’s research attracts grant funding from prestigious funders. The most recent award was for $1M from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to create transparent curricular and pedagogical pathways in STEM for underserved and underrepresented students. His passion, however, is still in the classroom, where he teaches on social inequalities in education and research methods in the social sciences.
