Keynote At the beginning of the 21st century, higher education is confronted with fundamental social changes. These include the advent of a knowledge-oriented society, the growth of globalization and market-oriented economies. It becomes necessary to reconstruct the mission and roles appropriate for higher education in this new era, while at the same time developing procedures for ensuring that the quality of higher education sustains internationally accepted standards. Such worldwide issues have to be analyzed and compared with various trends towards constructing models for 21st century higher education in several countries. On this occasion, administrators and researches in higher education will be provided with valuable insight into the challenge of establishing systems of higher education for the new era.
