We are pleased to announce that comments by Associate Professor Yusuke Sakurai of our center were published in the June 15, 2026 issue of the U.S. scientific journal Science.

The article, titled \u201cThe road to research independence may be bumpy. These lessons can help,\u201d Dr Sakurai comments on researcher independence across doctoral, early-, and mid-career stages. He and his colleague shares three key themes: the path towards researcher independence is inherently \u201cbumpy,\u201d with progress regularly interrupted by setbacks; researchers must strategically take ownership of their own development; and seeking validation from peers and supervisors is essential for building a sense of independence. They also caution that external factors, including over- or under-supportive supervisors and overwork cultures, can impede independence, urging early-career researchers to be strategic, self-aware, and attentive to their own wellbeing.<\/p>\n
