We have observed an erosion of academic freedom and faculty autonomy and dramatic shifts to part-time and short-term contract employment. In this lecture, I will describe these changes and discuss a recent survey conducted with colleagues from NC State University looking at the effects of COVID-19 on faculty work and promotion plans.
